Our theme for the morning was ‘A Preaching Reset’.
The call to the Pastor-Teacher is to preach the Word. Yet maintaining our passion for preaching and the priority of preaching can be hard at the best of times. Let alone under lockdown, when many of us are preaching to camera, disconnected from our hearers and with next to no idea how they are responding to the Word we preach. On the other hand, with so many of the routines of ministry disrupted, it is an opportune time to reconsider our ministry priorities, perhaps with a preaching ‘reset’ that reignites the passion in our hearts to preach the Word, restores the priority of preaching in our schedules and refreshes the labour we undertake in the Word.
We were delighted to welcome David Jackman, former president of The Proclamation Trust, as our speaker for the morning, drawing upon the Scriptures and his own lifetime of experience preaching the Word and training preachers to help us with this ‘Preaching Reset’.
A Question and Answer session followed with David. This was chaired by Phil Moon, Vicar of Bishop Hannington Church in Hove and Chair of the SGP's Steering Group.
